South America’s fintech industry has experienced remarkable growth and transformation over the past years, driven by technological innovation, regulatory advancements and a focus on financial inclusion.
South America, which includes 12 sovereign states among which Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile and Colombia, was home to nearly 3,000 fintech companies in 2023, up from less than 700 in 2017. Brazil led the region, with approximately 20% of these firms, followed by Colombia, Argentina and Chile. Collectively, these countries accounted for more than half of all fintech companies in South America.
This ecosystem has risen on the back of evolving regulatory frameworks designed to support fintech growth. In Brazil, the central bank implemented open banking in 2020 and 2021, promoting data sharing among financial institutions to foster competition. In Chile, the government enacted the Fintech Act in 2022, establishing a regulatory framework for fintech activities and creating an open finance system for data sharing.
South America’s large unbanked population has also been a key driver of fintech growth. Across the broader Latin American (LatAm) region, which includes both South and Central America, 21% of the population remains excluded from the formal financial system. This creates a substantial opportunity for digital financial solutions to fill the gap.
South America’s dynamic fintech landscape has fueled the rise of prominent industry events in the region, serving as key platforms for industry stakeholders to network, stay up-to-date with the latest trends, and showcase cutting-edge fintech solutions.
Today, we look today at some of the biggest fintech events taking place in South America in 2025. For this list, we focus on prominent events that are set to bring together large crowds of industry leaders.
