NMI, an Illinois-based provider of embedded payments infrastructure, has announced the availability of its Tap to Pay solution on the Google Play Store.
In collaboration with Mastercard, NMI is expanding its payments technology with a cloud-based acceptance solution.
It is the first in the US to offer Cloud Commerce, a software-based system that enables businesses to accept contactless payments on eligible Android devices without additional hardware or setup.
With nearly half of all US businesses expected to adopt software point-of-sale (SoftPOS) systems by 2030, merchants are seeking cost-effective and adaptable payment solutions.
NMI’s Tap to Pay service allows businesses to process transactions directly on Android smartphones or tablets, removing the need for traditional point-of-sale equipment.
The Cloud Commerce app can be downloaded from Google Play, where users can log in with their NMI Gateway credentials and begin accepting payments.
The solution is designed for a range of transactions, including retail, transport, events, and mobile services, where speed and convenience are essential.
Tiffany Johnson, Chief Product Officer at NMI, stated:

“By simply downloading the Mastercard Cloud Commerce app and connecting to the NMI Gateway, they can start processing payments quickly and securely. As consumers seek simpler payment methods and small or seasonal merchants want to avoid costly hardware, it is important for our partners to be able to offer economical and frictionless payment acceptance options.”
Jennifer Marriner, Executive Vice President, Global Acceptance Solutions at Mastercard, added:

“As digital solutions evolve, it’s critical to equip the business owners that power commerce with a checkout experience that is fast, secure and user-friendly. By combining NMI’s comprehensive payments solutions with our Cloud Commerce technology, we’re streamlining the process for merchants to not only offer greater choice to their customers but also modernise physical and digital acceptance.”
